He has given speeches, lectures and papers across the country, from Washington, D.C. to the University of California at Berkeley and overseas. Mr. Harris was struck with stage-fright while giving his first speech. He vowed never to do it again. But circumstances forced him back onto the dais. He decided that, rather than making a speech, he would just talk to the audience. Over the past 30 years, Mr. Harris has never required notes of more than 4-5 keywords as reminders.
